We are woken every morning by a flock of sulphur crested cockatoos. They nest in the ancient eucalypts that line a creek near our home. It’s party central up in those trees at the moment, with fledglings emerging from their hollows just in time to celebrate the new year.
The cocky’s wings, body and head are made from solid, ripple and pearlescent white acrylic. The crest is bright yellow with cheek and feathers of ripple lemon. His smiley beak is grey, as are his feet.
The garland is made from embroidery cotton, treaded with two tones of eucalyptus coloured leaves, as well as hand-painted gum flowers. These decorations have been lovingly attached to the garland by hand and let’s face it, it takes a cosmic alignment to secure all ten pieces evenly along the piece of thread. Each has been carefully held in place by a dob of glue, which is visible from the back. Please accept the unique twists and turns of each cocky’s garland. This is not a fault as it’s a handcrafted item.
