Description
This sweet black cockatoo brooch is inspired by a photo taken by Steve on a field expedition — a real-life moment turned wearable art. The soft pink ring around the eye lets us know this cocky is a boy!
There is quite a backstory to this charming little black cockatoo. Originally designed for Valentine’s Day 2024, complete with a sweet yellow heart-shaped cheek – perfect for gifting to your favourite Broochie Galentine – he was lovingly finished… only to miss the postal deadlines.
Fast forward to Valentine’s Day 2025… and yes, due to family commitments, we missed that one too!
It occurred to us that celebrating friendship shouldn’t be limited to just one day. We believe in honouring good friends every day, and what better way than with a splash of yellow – the colour of friendship!
Now, after patiently waiting on his backing card, he’s finally ready to spread his wings and perch proudly on your lapel. A long-awaited labour of love – and totally worth the wait.
His body is crafted from glossy black acrylic, with layered wings made from a mix of matte and swirly textures for depth and detail. Each feather has been carefully etched and hand-painted, giving him a lifelike, feathery finish. The yellow heart-shaped cheek is inlaid for a smooth finish, and his beak and feet are soft grey. His cheeky black eye is framed with a pop of pink, adding a touch of personality.
