Fossils are fascinating. Initially there’s the wonder of “what is it?” and then we make links with living organisms and their evolution. Fossils are a window to ancient environments and fossil collections can be mesmerising.

This pocket-sized specimen box mimics the collections you may have studied in High School Science class. It has all the typical index fossils any avid fossil hunter would hope for. Each of the nine miniature specimens represents a real-life fossil.

What’s in the Box?

Top Row: Megalodon tooth; Crinoid; Ammonite.

Middle Row: Echinoid; Glossopteris leaves; Dinosaur Foot Print.

Bottom Row: Trilobite; Fish; Brachiopod.

What’s Quetzy’s favourite from this bunch?   Glossopteris, hands down. This plant is the botanical evidence for the supercontinent, Gondwana and proof of plate tectonics.   How cool is that!

The box is made from two layers of bamboo.   Each fossil specimen has been cut from a different sedimentary, rock-coloured acrylic.   Some are solid colours such as the crinoid, trilobite and dinosaur foot print.   Whilst, others such as the ammonite, megalodon tooth and bony fish have been made from swirly, rippled acrylic.
