Gang Gang Garland

Australia is home to 56 native parrot species but Gang Gang Cockatoos are Quetzy’s favourite.

We have a growing family of these gentle feathered friends visit our garden each year. They feast in a tree near our front door and climb down to low level branches to peek at us. There’s a lot to love about Gang Gangs…their wispy feathered heads, stocky little bodies and curious nature…which leads us to the story of our outdoor Christmas lights.

Our gregarious Gang Gang has a garland of tiny gumnuts and gum flowers. This brooch is suitable for the festive season, although it could be worn all year round.

The Gang Gang boy is made from bright red and muted grey acrylic. His feathers have been etched and his eye has been hand painted. The garland is made from black embroidery cotton with tiny, hand painted gumnuts in flower tied on individually. Considerable care has been taken to orient the gumnuts facing forward; however, they have a tendency to twist around. This can be easily rectified by wriggling the knots to achieve an ideal placement.
